Text Stacking

We went in a different direction with this latest project. We did not use any of the previous tools we had used in Adobe Illustrator. Before we had been working with tools like the pen tool and shape tool, however, in this project we used the text and grouping tools. This was a very educational project. We learned about text stacking, figure ground reversal, and typographic ligatures.
Tools Used
  1. Text tool
  2. Outline tool
  3. Grouping tool
Self-Reflection

This project introduced us to a whole new and glorious side of Adobe Illustrator.  We finally strayed from the annoying pen tool and childish shape tool and advanced into the majestic world of manipulating text. I definitely like these types of projects a lot more.
Participation/Project
  • I would give myself a 10/10 because my final product looked great and I was a consistently hard worker throughout.

Illustrator-week 2

This project was assigned simply to familiarize the students with some newer tools and windows in Adobe Illustrator. We are gradually learning more and more about Illustrator. I used THIS web site as a tutorial for these new tools.
Tools Used
  • Shape tool
  • Pathfinder window
  • Brush tool window
Self Reflection
This is the project that won me over. I definitely enjoy Adobe Illustrator now. At first it was difficult and frustrating but after using for the third time, I am beginning to like it.
Part/Proj
  • I would give myself a 9/9
  • I was one of the first people to finish so I clearly participated well, and my final product ended up looking good as well.

Illustrator

This project was a type of practice sheet to familiarize us with the illustrator program. I used the pen tool, the pencil tool and the shape tool to complete this assignment. I also used vectordiary.com to help teach me how to use each of these tools.
Tools used
  • As I said I used the pen and pencil tool.
  • I also used the ellipse tool, the rectangle tool, the star tool, and the circle tool.

Self Reflection
Overall, this project was a struggle for me. I found it especially difficult to use the pen tool. However, I did find the shape tools very user friendly and fun to use.
Part/Proj
  • I would give myself a 9/8
  • I tried my best and worked diligently throughout but my end product did not turn out how I would have liked.

Rocket Ship for adobe illustrator

Here we have a simple looking rocket ship that I created using Adobe Illustrator. I used various new tools to help me complete the task and make this rocket ship look as good as it does. I used denisdesigns.com to help me figure everything out for this project.
New skills and processes
  • I used the gradient, pathfinder, and stroke tools for the first time while working on this project.
  • I also used an odd copy and paste strategy to make the project look nice and symmetrical.
Self Reflection
I enjoyed this project. It was very fun to complete and was a great way to get me comfortable with illustrator. The only complaint I have was that the tutorial was very vague and I required alot of extra help when I used it. Other than that it was a very fun project!

Part/Proj
  • I would give myself a 9/9
  • I worked hard and participated well and I am very happy with my end result.

The Road

The Road has a very somber tone from the begining. It takes place in the post-apocolyptic world. The story is about a father and son who have survived through the apocolypse. We follow them as they struggle to survive the harsh conditions of the globe. They are migrating south to escape the cold. The author makes it clear from the begining that the father and son have a close bond. Other than the father and son toughing out some cold nights, finding a couple dead bodies in a truck, nothing else has happend through the 45 pages that i have read. It is tough to go into description on the few things that did happen because the author goes into very little detail with these events.
The book doesnt excite me so far. I wish there would be some more action. I wish there would be less dialogue about stuff that I just dont care about. Either way hopefully it gets better, but if not, there is no way it can be worse than Grapes of Wrath.
So far I do not enjoy this book. It is taking too long to get into anything of significance and is just boring me at this point. It is simply dialogue between father and son, and then describing how cold it is at night. There has not been anything interesting or anyting that has grabbed my attention through 50 plus pages.
The Road takes place in a very depressing apocolyptic world. While the author has yet to elaborate on how the world met its demise, I researched some prominent theories on how this might happen. It turns out that there are various theories as to how the world will come to an end. Some think that mankind controls its demise, and that the apocolypse will be caused by a third world war. Others deal with a more scientific destruction of the world. An example of this type of theory is the death of the sun. Either way, we all hope the apocolypse is either fiction or many years away.
Possible Nuclear War
In the World War 3 theory, people believe that it will be a nuclear war to end all civilization. The theorists beleive that if the explosions dont ruin mankind, then the radiation and after effects would surely destroy the world. Some beleive that the threat of this happening has been greatly reduced after the cold war ended, but there is always a future threat.
Death of the Sun
The second threat to the globe is the death of the sun. Scientists have found this theory to be inevitable, however, we do still have billions of years before we have to worry. After the death of the sun, the earth is said to become violently hot. It would be at the point where the oceans boil. After the immense  heat would come the frigid cold. No living being is thought to survive this process.
This book and all this talk of apocolypse tottally depresses me. I come home in a great mood, only to research these aweful topics. I mean I knew the book wasn't going to be a "feel good" type when I decided to read it but I definetly did not know it would be this bad. It mentioned how the mother ditched the father and son to go kill herself! I mean, what the heck! How aweful is that?
